Valentine's Workshop

Well, I have been a demo now since August and I have had several classes at my house but not at anyone else's, with strangers. My friend, Jenn (from the cookie post) wanted to host a Mom and Me class for some of her friends. We thought Valentine's would be the perfect time for that. So, here are the cards we made a some pictures of the event. It was great fun. Now I want to have more hostesses do shows in their home. I just did a Pampered Chef show and it was so fun (and I got $240 in free stuff!). I just don't ask people to have their own shows very often. Most of the stampers I know are in my stamp club. But, I'll work on it. :)

This first picture is the nugget box we made. I thought it was so cute. Inside they could stamp BFF (Best Friends Forever) or I {heart} U and someone put LOL. We used the new berry bliss paper. It is fabulous. My favorite pattern is the one in this first picture. The template can be found HERE. Chris Simon has put a ton of work into creating the patters. I simply couldn't believe it. Her blog, Colorful Om, is great too. Go check her out if you have a minute. I need to figure out what her blogname means.

I guess I do not have a picture of the other card we made. I will post it when I get home. (No, of course I am not blogging at work!)

We also gave away several doorprizes. I made this candybar wrapper. This stamp from Time Well Spent was perfect I thought. I used the rose red patterned paper from SU.

Jen made this adorable mailbox for a doorprize. She is so clever. I see this boxes all the time and love them but haven't made one. She sees it, gets it, and does it in a blink. Amazing.

I also gave away som 3x3 notes that I will post next time because I have a good tip for you about 3x3 envelopes.

And, I gave this little box to Jenn for being a hostess and it had the mint patty sandwiches inside. So very easy to make. We made those for the workshop too.

On a Personal Note: Things have been well here. We had a great trip to Colorado two weekends ago. I so enjoyed hanging out with my family. Zoe and my mom get along so well and that is just fabulous. My stepdad just loves being a grandpa and Zoe thinks he is pretty special too. Zoe gave my grandpa a big kiss and enjoyed hanging out with him. That surprised me because she isn't always quick to be affectionate with people she doesn't see often but she sure was willing to love on him, her great grandpa.

Brett spent several days with my grandparents at the business that we are hoping to buy. He wanted to be sure that it was a good fit for him as a job. He really liked it. We are now trying to figure out how to analyze the business so that we can offer a fair asking price for it. It is challenging because it is a lot of money to buy a business AND it is family. But, I know God will let it work out perfectly. I had an interview while I was there. It went okay. Well, the interview wasn't really an interview but a "meeting" and it went well. I was just disappointed and knew it wasn't probably the place for me. But, since then, I have put in a couple of applictions online for school districts there and I have already had an offer basically with a district. They had only had my application about 24 hours before they called and offered a contract conditional on be getting my Colorado teaching license. Wow huh? I really couldn't believe it. The crazy thing is that all of my 3 jobs so far have worked out similarly and God just always takes care of me job wise. I really trust him to do it again. I didn't take the conditional contract because I won't get to choose what school I work at but I don't think it will be a problem to get a job.

Well, that is about all for now. I'll update more later. Pray for my sister in law if you would. She is pregnant, due in May, and fell yesterday and broke her list. She also has a 19 month old to care for. Wowsers.

Okay, talk to you soon.

Love you lots -- A.

The first Valentine of '08

Okay, I like the new Valentine's set. I know some people don't, but I think it is cute. I have a toddler and I know that eventually I'll be making valentines for her classes at school. But, I didn't feel very bold with it so I just immitated Laurie Schmidlin's card from her blog, Just Give Me Stamps. Hers was so cute and I had to try something like it. She is one of the artists whose style is most like what I would like to create. This is how mine turned out and I think it is cute. I need to come up with a simple design so I can send out many, many Valentines (in lieu of Christmas cards this year). But, this was a fun, not so simple design. Thanks for the idea Laurie.

On a Personal Note: We are headed to Colorado tonight! I am really excited to go and visit. We get to hang out with mom. I guess is it COLD there. Hope we Texans can handle it. I am hopeing that Zoe gets to see a little snow! :) We are considering buying a business there so Brett is going to hang out with the owners (my grandparents) and see how he feels for a week or so and get some ideas about how the business goes. I am hoping it goes well. I actually have a job interview on Tuesday. I am really nervous. I haven't had a job interview in 9 years!! But, I am confident that it will go well. I interview with a principal and 3 other foreign language teachers. (No pressure, yeah, right). I am going to take some samples of student work and maybe some pictures of things in my classroom. The biggest deal with this interview is that it is with a Junior high. I have been with high school students for 11 years. But, I think it might be a good change. I enjoy Spanish One the most and it can be so much fun. I think that these younger kids may not be afraid of some risk taking and actually have fun singing songs and doing crafts. I think I could incorporate more culture into the subject of Spanish. I guess we'll see.

I come back Tuesday and Brett and Zoe Friday so I'll have a couple days all by myself. Wow, that will be a change. What shall I do? Craft maybe???

Love you lots,

Stamp Club

This past week my upline Angie was the demonstrator for our club. (She and I switch off every other month). Her cards were so cute and I wanted to share them. We used new sets for both cards. The thank you card is made with a new hostess set and the other is made with Embrace Life. I didn't buy either of these sets so it was fun to make cards with them.

Isn't this grey ribbon so pretty?

I really liked it alot. I hadn't used the new grey and it is a nice color I think. This card was simple but bold.

I love the new designer paper. The colors are very appealing to me. This card uses Embrace Life and I really liked how Angie had us fold the scallop circle in half around the edge of the image. We also scallop punched both layers with the corner rounder. Man, is that ever a hand workout!

On a Personal Note: Brett and I bought some good books at church last week. I bought She Shall be Called Woman and it is about the women of the New Testament. I have really struggled to be faithful in having personal time with God. I don't think a new book is the answer but I am excited to read through it. Sometimes I have a bit of resentment about a woman's role as the Bible lays it out. I know "times have changed" and that is fine and good but some things the Bible calls me to do not change over time. Anyway, I am excited to read through the book. I also got a book named The Girlfriends Getaway. Doesn't that sound fun? I am trying to plan a craft retreat in a month or so. We'll see if that works out. I need to get on the ball. Wanna go? It will be outside of Austin in Round Top, TX.

Talk to you soon and love you lots!

The Christmas Cards I Didn't Send

Well, I am usually really good about sending Christmas cards. I have a rather large family and send about 80 a year. Well, this year I didn't do it. Sad huh? I helped one of my friends cut and make hers. I even made a couple dozen of my own. But, I didn't send them. I know, I know. It s sad. But, my goal is to send out valentines instead! We'll see.

But, I wanted to post the photos anyway. I have some cards I made to send and I also went to a great tin class by my upline and we made a couple of great things. So, here goes...

This first one is my favorite. It has little dots in the background, a cuttlebug layer and then the image is sidekick says, a hostess set from the fall-winter SU book.
This next one was a very popular seller at the craft fair I had a booth at. I was really surprised it was so well liked. It is cuttlbugged again with the large image from Season of Joy. The ribbon is May Arts. This little snowman was going to get a lot of use as I made different Christmas cards but it sure didn't. I only made a few of these. I wouldn't necessarily replicate this one again but I do want to find something cute to do with him.

Okay, on to the class. We made the tin, two cards and this little tag book. It was such fun. Angie, my upline, had very creative ideas for us. I love my tin and want to make another one with "all season" paper to keep cards in.

Isn't this card gorgeous? It had soooo many layers and is really heavy. The flower/snowflake came from a tutorial on splitcoast. In the tutorial they use velum but we used the dashing paper that has the little red dots. I really liked it. You make the flower using the small and large tag punches. who knew? Who thinks of this stuff? I'm so glad I have all of you to borrow ideas from!!

This card was so simple yet so cute too. I love that JOY stamp. I didn't get that hostess set but I sure liked it. Then finally this tag book is so cute. I only a decorated a couple of the pages and was going to put photos on the empty ones with the photo corner punch framing them. The flower on the front uses the 5 petal flower punch to make a faux poinsettia. As you can see it didn't get completed but I think I'll add some photos from this Christmas and put it out next year. Good idea? Of course it is! I'll put it in my "to finish" pile. (bwahhaaaahhaa)

Well, I guess that is it for Christmas stuff. Sorry it is so late.

On a Personal Note: Our Christmas really was fabulous. We headed to southern Illinois to spend time with Brett's family. His sister has a son just 2 months younger than Zoe and they sure had a blast playing together. (Usually). They actually played "near" each other most of the time. The last night we were there they actually figured out if they interacted with each other is was extra fun. It was great to be there. Beth, my sister in law, is expecting a girl in May. How exciting! We really missed Brett's brother and his family. They couldn't come to Illinois this year because Tracy just had their second baby, Abby. They have two little girls. So, I guess it is Brett's and my turn. I am really ready to have a new baby but as you read we are considering moving. So, we will most likely wait until late summer to try.

I would like to lose weight before getting pregnant but weight is like the impossible dream for me. I just can't seem to make my mind get to the place it needs to be. I know my health is in danger and I definitely don't like how I feel or look but oh it is just so hard. Sorry, enough whining from me.

Back to Christmas. Zoe was a blast. She really understood what we meant when we asked if she wanted to open presents. She would run and pick one out, one of her own that is, and open it and get excited about what was inside. She got a lot of Dora things and that was a huge success. She got Dora shoes! Her two favorite things combined. She literally screamed when she opened them! She also got a little people camper and she likes that. We need the doll house next. She got a kitchen that still needs put together but it will be really exciting when she gets that. She has had fun playing with the other things and has a few items that we put away to bring out later. Brett and I got her a tricycle. Hopefully that will cut down of the accidents she was having on her other riding toy. But, being with family was the very best gift. We had a great time there.

Well, this is a super long post. If you have read this long - thank you. You must be my friend. :)

Talk to you soon---A.

Time Well Spent

(I am going to post "crafty stuff" up top and will be putting personal notes at the end of the posts. So, if you are interested in the "personal stuff" it will be at the bottom!)

At first I wasn't sure if I *loved* the "time well spent" set that I got from Stampin' Up. It is a level 3 hostess set. I liked it but....
Well, I started using it and I do like it very much and I *love* the phrases it uses. I made this first card with my new Christmas present. The Creative Memories circle cutters. I got the circle and oval patterns from my husband. It is a thank you for a friend that had us to dinner. I had to play around a bit to figure out what size circle will fit on the card front. That was the interesting part. This was a 4" circle cut in half. I water colored the big flower with pomegranate ink after stamping it on guava paper. Please do not enlarge this or the other pictures to get a good look at the mess in the background!! :)

I was having a bit of a creative block after we got back from our Christmas trip. That always happens when I haven't stamped in awhile. So, I cased these next two directly from the new catalog on page 24. I did make a few changes. I used my new "Celebrate" set on the one. I really like that set a lot. I need to get the other ones like it. My wish list for the new catalog was long. I was really impressed, especially with the sentiments. On this top card a little water damage has occurred and that is disappointing. My own fault though. This one used the new "Bali breeze" paper on that bottom strip and I put some little rhinestones on the flower.

I really like this last one. It is fun I think and the colors were an unexpected combo for me. I would never pick it on my own. I have been having a lot of fun playing and have some other photos to show you. I didn't want to overwhelm you in one blog post!! :)

On a Personal note: School started for me on the second and has been busy since. This year we have exams AFTER the break and that has been silly I think. Exams for the kids are next week. Usually when they are over this is a winter break or summer break so it is weird to have them and then go right back to school. But, we are going to Colorado to visit my mom and for Brett to spend some time with my grandparents. He is thinking about buying their business, so yes, that means we are considering moving to Colorado this summer! I am really excited but it seems like a lot of things need to fall into place (like selling our house, what a chore!) To sell the house seems like a challenge because everyone is complaining about the housing market. We have only lived in this house for 3 years and so we would need to get out of it more than we bought it for in order to pay the real estate agent his commission! We would need to paint (which I have wanted to do since we moved in) and get rid of some messy areas before we put it on the market. Probably I'll need to pack TONS of stuff before we even put it on the market. Crazy! How in the world do I tidy my stamp area and pack what I don't need? Of course I'll need it as soon as I pack it! I guess we'll see what happens but please pray for us to be able to follow the path God has laid out for us. We have hit a fork in the road!

Talk to you soon and love you lots!
